Lawn Care
The goal is to create a healthy, lake-friendly lawn, not a green lake. Soil samples from our area typically contain ample amounts of phosphorous for a healthy lawn. Call your Extension Agent if you have any questions or want to submit your own soil sample. Here are a few tips that can save your lake and your lawn:
- Fertilize in the early fall. One annual application should be sufficent.
- Apply phosphate-free products. Look for a “zero” in the middle on the N-K-P analysis (eg. 29-0-5).
- Avoid applications before rain.
- Mow to 3 to 4 inches, leaving clippings.
- Early morning watering is best, however grass survives by going dormant during droughts.
- Reseed as needed and pull any remaining weeds.
